As a young man I had my fair share of love interests that ended up with me being dumped by the wayside. Those rejections were especially hard on my mental states and resulted in actual physical pain. The pain could be likened to a knife being plunged deep into my flesh and then twisted to inflict the maximum pain. This happened several times and at one point I didn’t think I would ever find permanent love. Every time I thought I had found the “one”, I would end up with a broken heart.
As hard as all of that was I never gave up and kept searching for someone who would be my soul mate. I tried to end the song on a note of hope, that hope being that there is the right “one” for everyone and you just have to keep searching until you find them – which I did, finally as can be heard in my song “Rock of My Ages”.

Verse 1
When I was much younger and blinded by love
I trusted my heart to the heavens above
When she left and I was alone in the night
That’s when I first felt the twist of the knife

Chorus 1
The blade slides in easy, again and again
And though the wounds heal the scars still remain
It’s one of the hardest lessons of life
To feel the blade; the twist of the knife

Verse 2
Why you’d think that I’d learn over the years
But life without love is one of my biggest fears
And try as I might the old patterns return
So I sit back and watch as my bridges all burn

Chorus 2
The blade slides in easy, again and again
And though the wounds heal the scars still remain
It’s one of the hardest lessons of life
To feel the blade; the twist of the knife

Verse 3
Still I keep searching for a love that is true
And somewhere in this world I know I’ll find you
Until the day you come in to my life
I’ll live with the pain of the twist of the knife

Chorus 3
The blade slides in easy, again and again
And though the wounds heal the scars still remain
It’s one of the hardest lessons of life
To feel the blade; the twist of the knife
It’s one of the hardest lessons of life
To feel the blade; the twist of the knife
