Older Cars and Younger Women
I wrote this song many years ago as you might be able to tell from the start of the 3rd verse “Now that I am way past 40” - I turn 66 this year (2021) and I’m even more “way past 40”. At the time I wrote this I was in my late 40’s and that thing that happens to men in that time of their lives happened to me. I started thinking about how one day I’m a happy go lucky guy having a good time to suddenly being older with all kinds of life responsibilities. And the thing that epitomized that for me was the image of old cars and young women.
I just love older cars – especially those classics from the 50’s, 60’s and early 70’s – when cars were made of solid steel and the only plastic part was the Hula Girl on the dash. In my day I’ve owned a few classics: a ’56 Olds Rocket 88 convertible, a ’66 Chevy II (not the 327 V-8 but a 6 cylinder 3-on-the-tree standard) and a ’71 Dodge Challenger convertible. I wish I had any one of them now. As for younger women – well – what dirty old man doesn’t like to look at young women. No touching mind you – but looking is okay.
I think the whole point of the song is that, for a man, growing old, outgrowing your youth kind of sneaks up on you and when you finally realize what’s happened, it kind of knocks the wind (and sometimes the sense) out of you. You’re never really prepared for it and it can knock you for a loop.

Verse 1
I remember in my younger days
Bought a beat up Chevrolet
Cruised the streets and had a lot of fun
Finished college and I chased some women
Settled down and started living
But lately things have started spinning round
‘Cause all I think about are

Chorus 1
Older cars and younger women
Faster bars and looser living
Don’t know what happened to my life
Up on top my hair is thinning
Down below my belly’s brimming
This boomer ain’t no baby anymore

Verse 2
I hit thirty before I knew it
Settled down and got into it
The very strange place they call middle age
Gave up sports and got a little heavy
Put on a tie and traded in my Chevy
Now it’s hard to cruise in my mini-van
‘Cause all I think about are

Chorus 2
Older cars and younger women
Faster bars and looser living
Don’t know what happened to my life
Up on top my hair is thinning
Down below my belly’s brimming
This boomer ain’t no baby

Verse 3
Now that I am way past forty
I need the lift I’m feeling sporty
Trying to relive my younger days
Some would think my problems are mental
I just think I’m sentimental
I’m trying to be just like I used to be
‘Cause all I think about are

Chorus 3
Older cars and younger women
Faster bars and looser living
Don’t know what happened to my life
Up on top my hair is thinning
Down below my belly’s brimming
This boomer ain’t no baby anymore
This boomer ain’t no baby anymore
This boomer ain’t no baby anymore
